One triple o.

On another note… One double o. One. Zero. Zero. 100. 100 days until Halloween. Hope you have your costumes ready! I think this year I’m going to as Captain Underpants.

All I need is some tighty whities and a red cape. Hope it’s not cold this year. If it is, I’ll be Captain Obvious.

*Stage whispering* There’s 160 days left!

I must not be well. I was in a bookstore yesterday with permission to buy books. That doesn’t happen often. I have a stack of books in my “to read” pile. I’m currently reading The Virgin Cure by Ami McKay. I highly recommend it. Anyway, here was I surrounded by thousands of books and I walk out empty handed. Well, not really empty. Crash bought a Warriors book about cats and Bang got Little Miss Stubborn and an early reader Star Wars book. I got nothing. Did I not know which ones I wanted? Was I so torn in my decision to choose one that I chose none? Was I really content with the number of books I have?

For now, we’ll pick D) All of the above.

For those who are counting there are just 167 days left until Christmas. For those who aren’t counting there are still 167 days until Christmas.

Today I’d like to honor the seven 8 blogs who appear in my email that I make sure I read. Skim if I don’t have time to fully read. But I read and comment when I can. Some are on journeys. Some are insightful. Some are just plain funny. It’s a good can of mixed nuts.

Happy Belated birthday, Canada. 150 years old! Back when Dinosaurs were inventing water. We celebrated by wearing our matching Canada 150 shirts, eating a free pancake breakfast, checking out some tall ships (105 feet tall to be exact), eating some free hotdogs and Canada’s birthday cake. There was music, bouncy castles, spray on tats, and tired, cranky kids who then had to go home and clean their room after supper.

Happy Canada Day!

I hope all you dads had great day yesterday. Moms, I hope your children’s father and your own father had a great day.

Even all of you who fill the fatherly role.

Hope you were able to play your “Dad Card” to get out any unwanted duties. Now we’re back to real life so it’s back to working and cooking and cleaning and jumping on trampolines and putting kids to bed and doing whatever it is you do as Dad.

Sunday Share: Week 24

We relayed all day yesterday. Relayed for Life. Our town used to host a Relay for Life. However, last year they opted not because of a lack of support. So “Ray Ray’s Sugarbears” made this their final year for Relay. Their dad put the bug in their ear last fall about taking part in one nearby since our town wasn’t holding one. When he passed in February DW and her brother vowed to make it their best one yet.

They set ambitious fundraising goals. DW wanted to raise $2,000. Her brother, $15,000. Not only did they reach their $17,000 wish, they blew it out of the sky.

They were the top fundraising team with $22,500.

The goal for the town’s Relay was $20,000. They raised $50,000.

It’s officially June.

I was talking to a boy on the playground last week at school. He told me, “There’s a June bug over there” and pointed to the ground in the corner of an asphalted area.

I replied, “Oh, show me.”

“I stomped on it.” He explained. “It’s not June, yet.”

Had that bug just waited one more day, he would have been in the correct month and would have survived. Though I know that boy made a many people happy. To some, the only good June bug is a dead June bug.

In case you’re counting, there are 210 days until Christmas!

You’re probably not counting, though. Neither am I.

But just like Christmas Eve, not a creature is stirring. The boys are asleep with visions of God knows what dancing in their dreams. The parrot is covered and quiet (until she screeches for a treat at 9:30). With it so peaceful, I leave you these good reads for this evening. Or morning for those of you on the other side.

If it’s not raining y’all, it’s windy. 70 kph wind gusts yesterday and today. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was a bit warmer, but it’s only 10C (50F). At least it’s not raining. Or snowing. Friends of ours in Newfoundland got snow yesterday. Not just some flurries or a dusting, but enough for snowball fights and sledding! Here we are approaching the end of May and they’re still out snowshoeing.

So, whether you’re enjoying sunshine and warm weather or out building igloos, here is this week’s share. Happy reading!

Sunday Share Week 20: The Mother’s Day Edition

It takes a village to raise a child.

I had my share of mother’s growing up. My own mother who made sacrifices to make sure I got to play sports – baseball, soccer, and in high school, wrestling. Then there we all my friend’s mothers who often times allowed me over for sleepovers and would feed me and make sure my mom knew where I was. Then there were my two mother-in-laws who took me into their family as if I was one of their own.

Then there is DW, the mother of my children. Not only does she keep our kids in line, but she’s taken over keeping me in line, too. Kind of like the passing of the torch.

It takes a village.
