Month in Review

Good bye March. Don’t let the door in ya on the arse on your way out. You brought too much cold and too much snow. Take it all with you. Consider yourself officially evicted from the world for one year effective immediately.

Okay, I’m done bitching about the weather now.

I have nothing to complain about in the stats department of this little blog. The numbers are climbing. Not the hights of Mt. Everest mind you. More like the climbing the stairs to use the bathroom.

March brought 1,372 views. This is up 109. Up is the right direction.I bet if you shared one of my posts the numbers would go up faster. Maybe we’ll play game one of these weeks in April – you repost one of mine and I’ll repost one of yours. I’ll let you know.

There were 661 visitors. This up 96. Up again!

Likes are nice.  467 are really nice. This is up 86. I like that.

Like always, this blog is run by you. Sure, I write the posts, but without the comments and discussions this blog is nothing more than a flashing cursor. Thank you for 338 comments in March. That’s up 58!

March saw 22 posts which is 3 more than February had. The most viewed page was Sunday Share: Week 13 with 77 views. Following in second place was 42 which not about Jackie Robinson but about my Mom and Dad. In a close third, was Sunday Share: Week 11

I was visited by 39 countries. Leading was the United States. Following was Canada. Tagging along was the UK. Joining in was the Netherlands. The fifth wheel was Austrailia.

The only search term available for me to see from March was “lush bath bombs”. Odd term to find on a dad blog but when you have two kids who love the smelly, colorful things, you’ll find them here.

I now have 843 people following this little place. I’m getting closer that 1,000 mark. Thank you to my latest three followers – Samantha Scott AuthorJoe Owens, and Rhythm In Life. Will you be next? You won’t be disappointed. You’ll be amused, entertained, and occasionally you’ll thank your lucky stars none of this is happening to you.

Month In Review

My last Month in Review was just 10 days ago as I was late in getting to it in February. Now we’re into the third month of the year. I’m not exactly sure if March has come in like a lion or lamb. Perhaps a gentle lion? Or maybe an aggressive lamb? We’ve had clouds and rain for the first two days of March, but it’s been 9 C. Nova Scotia’s groundhog, Shubenacadie Sam, saw his shadow and therefore predicts an early spring. Regardless of shadows, spring will officially be here on the 20th. Incidentally, that’s the day before my parent’s 900th 42nd wedding anniversary.

Anyway, last month was a rough month in the beginning and it pretty much threw the rest of the month for a loop and barrel roll. If my blog were a soapbox car in a soapbox derby, my stats would be the perfect downhill.

February saw 19 posts. This is down from 24 the month prior.
Since there were fewer posts and I was reading fewer blogs, I received 1,263 views for the month. This is down 62 from January. I hope to turn this around in March and get those numbers climbing again. Last April saw 2,000+ views per month. It would be nice to be there again.

There were 565 visitors which is down 30. I’m as grateful for those 565 that I am for the 595 because they are the ones who came for a read and stayed for a Coke and a chat.

391 people were inspired enough to click that star – the like button. I like that, even though it is exactly 100 fewer likes than January.

My favorite stat to look at though (besides views, of course) are the comments. This is what brings me back to blogging. I could have a million views a day, but they would be meaningless if there were zero comments. Thanks to the 330 of you who were so kind, so moved, and so inspired to leave a comment in February. This is only 12 fewer than January. Not bad considering I had 5 fewer posts. I wonder who left the most comments?

February’s most popular post was Get to Know Me Tag with 77 views. In this post I made up some fun questions and directions then tagged some blogging friends. I’m not sure if it’s still going or not, but it was fun to see it pop up. In a close second was Sunday Share 6.This is one of my favorite recurring posts to do. Here I give a shout out to some bloggers and a post I enjoyed reading. It’s a fun to network as what goes around comes around.

33 countries came to visit. This is down 8 countries. The top three were the US, the UK, and Canada. The Netherlands and Australia were knocked down to fourth and fifth!

When I wrote my last Month in Review 10 days ago I had 777 followers. Since then I’ve gained 10 followers bringing it up a total 787. That’s a follower a day! My latest three followers are Happily TannedGlesgadelic, and Miss Mummy Life. I’m well on my way to 1,000. Will you be next?

Remember, you don’t need a WordPress account. You can sign up for delivery right to your email.

There were some interesting search terms that lead people to my blog. I’m not sure they found what they were looking for, but they came anyway.

  • data entry work from home
  • pounding the pea
  • can i crash and bang your mom
  • toe tapping tuesday
  • traveling with kids

Lastly, my favorite the bloggers who have commented the most. There are some new faces this month. Welcome to this elite group! Thanks to all those who commented. Your discussion and stories and comments are an inspiration that, like the crayon on the wall, does not go unnoticed.

Month in Review

First, on a slightly selfish tone, I’d like to say that I’m happy to see the tag I started happily blog hopping. It gives shout outs to new and veteran bloggers alike. However, I’ve noticed that number 100 has mysteriously disappeared. If you’ve been tagged in the “Get To Know Me” please add number 100 which links to the original “Get to Know Me” post. You can just copy and paste this as the last question (which obviously isn’t a question):

100. The original Get to Know Me post

I feel like I’ve shot myself in the foot this month.

But as the saying goes,

It is what it is…

February has been a rough month. I have had the blog on autopilot for the month. In doing so, my views have plummeted like that skydiver without a parachute, my comments have dropped like Galileo’s weights from the tower (9.1 meters/sec), and my stats in general are so low they’ve hit oil.

But these are January’s stats. Let’s look on the bright side…

Once upon a time I was getting over 2,000 views per month. That hasn’t happened since April of last year. January saw 1,325 views. This is exactly 1,325 more views, people who stopped by to read what I wrote, than if I didn’t blog at all.

There were 595 visitors. I’m kinda proud of this number because it means readers are not just coming over, but they’re staying. Kinda like the friend who stops by to deliver a box of Timbits but ends up staying and chatting for a couple hours.

I published 24 posts in January. Not too shabby. I haven’t been posting on Saturdays because that used to be my day for writing 100 word stories and I haven’t done that since my series ended.

I got 481 likes in January. I like that.

The 342 comments I received though, are my pride and joy of the blog. I know I’ve written well, written content you can relate to, when you are kind enough to leave me your own thoughts on the subject. Building community is what drives the blog. Thanks to all who have chimed in. Also, I’m far more apt to visit and share the blogs of those who comment.

January’s most popular post was Mystery Blogger Award when I was nominated by A Momma’s View. It received 47 views.

41 countries visited my little corner. The US, Canada, and Australia were three to visit most often. The UK and Netherlands were close behind.

The search terms that brought people to my blog were great. “Dad son farting stories” brought 4 people. There more farts and poop around here than a dairy farm! Also searched was “fix cassette with a pencil” (that’s old school). “Stomping feet gif”, “beach forest mountain”, and “earth compared in size to the galaxy”. I’m so happy a science search landed someone on my blog! I hope someone feels smarter.

I am currently sitting at lucky 7’s. 777 followers! My latest three followers are Sheryl, TrevnJess, and Mykynla. Thanks for following! Will you be next? It’ll be worth it. I promise.

I’m going to pass on the most comments for the time being. As February ends next week, I’ll rewrite the Month in Review for this month and I’ll include y’all in there. But I will let GrubbsnCritters know that she’s currently winning and A Momma’s View is close behind. Perhaps someone can knock these two out of the top spots? I will be giving shout outs to the top six come March first!

Month in Review

Here we are in October.

Surprise!

It’s the month of Canadian Thanksgiving and Halloween. Fortunately, they’re not on the same day. Though they could be. Family get togethers can be pretty scary sometimes. Imagine Thanksgiving with the Munsters.

September saw the first day of school and the first day of fall. I managed to publish 27 times. I’ve now posted 27 times three months in a row.

September also brought 1,415 views to my little blog. That’s 105 fewer than August. Since May my views have been holding steady at around 1500 views (give or take a few). Of those views, 499 became visitors. That’s a dip of 57 from August. Thank you visitors for hanging around, making yourself at home, and reading for a while. If you were really in my home I’d offer tea or coffee or margaritas.

The little blue like button was clicked 478 times for a decrease of 68.

There were 373 comments. This fell 120. I’m not concerned though. 373 comments in one month ain’t too shabby!

My blog has travelled the world over. 38 countries came to read. That’s 5 more countries than last month!

Besides my homepage, Taboo Words for the Taboo Word Challenge was the top read post with 56 views. The Taboo Challenge was great and everyone who participated did awesome. We were a small but highly dedicated group. In a close second place was Sunday Share with 52 views. In a close third with 48 views was Community where I discussed a phone call I received from a neighbor who called to inform me of a potential creep while our kids were outside playing.

I’m now up to 571 followers! That’s a gain of 27.

The top commentors had the closest competition I’ve ever seen on my blog. The top three commentors are separated by one comment each!

With 64 – Erika of That’s What Anxious Mom Said
With 63 – Ann of Grubbs n Critters
With 62 – A Momma’s View
With 44 –  Daley Downing
With 30 – Elen Grey
With 19 – Karen van Benschoten

Thanks to everyone who participated in my Taboo Word Challenge. It was great fun even if it did force us to think a little more creatively than we are accustomed to. Thank you to every one who stops by to read this gibberish. Your comments and discussions make it all worth while!

Month in Review

summer-fall-resized-600

August has come and gone. We enjoyed the summer while it was here. We made trips to the beach and trips to the splash pad. We made many trips to baseball practices and games, too. But how did the blog get along?

August saw 27 posts with a grand total of 1,520 views, 138 more than July. I finally crested 1,500 again. I might be back on the incline of the rollercoaster of views.

There were 556 visitors. That’s 16 more!

The “like” button was clicked 77 more times in August than in July with 544 likes 🙂 I’m so glad y’all liked my posts so much! I like you, too!

There was great discussion in August. In fact, 493 comments were left on my posts. That’s 99 more than August had!

33 countries came to visit my little corner blog. Amazing! The top three were the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands. Australia, you were a very close fourth! Last month Australia and the Netherlands were in opposite positions. What a battle to get the bronze!

Besides my homepage, Behind the Scenes Blogging got the gold in the most viewed page competition with 78 views. This is where I answered some questions about how I blog. I Imagine A Day captured the silver with 67 views. I really believed this one would get more attention. It’s about the ideal teaching/education system. The Best Birthday Card Ever In the History earned the bronze with 51 views. My son made the most fantastic 40th birthday Star Wars card.

The end of August brought my 500th WordPress follower. I’m currently at 544 followers. That’s a gain of 73! WOWZER! I don’t know where we’re going, but we’re having a grand time getting there! We’re not lost, just wandering.

Next up… the top six commenters. This is really what keeps me blogging. The views are nice. The likes are good. But it’s the comments and the discussions that drive my blog forward. You make me laugh. You make me think. You make me want to keep writing more more more! Thank you to all of you.

Ann  of GrubbnCritters on “Growing Turmeric”
Erika of That’s What Anxious Mom Said on “Smoked Chicken Nuggets”
Sandra  of A Momma’s View on “Share Your World”
Elen of Elen Grey on “Single Shot Monday”
Daley of The Invisible Moth on “The Adventures of Cat-Littering
Pieter of AhDad on “Laugh With Me #48”

It’s the same six as last month, just  a different order! C’mon everyone, knock these people off the charts. Not that I want them off the charts because I really like them.

Things are picking up in the blog world. We’re all back to school. My half of the world is slowly edging its way toward fall and winter while the other half slowly marches toward spring and summer. I enjoy fall so much, though. Not because of pumpkin spice either. Pumpkin pie, yes. Apple pie, most definitely. Once upon a time I didn’t like apple pie. Then one day in high school I decided I liked it.

April’s A-Z Challenge is officially over. We’re back to our regularly scheduled broadcasting. The challenge went well. I didn’t miss any days. I did skip a letter, but I went back and grabbed it. Poor letter R. He’s forgiven me, though and we’re back on good terms again.

Thanks to Niki over at Niki’s Thoughts, “A Texan’s View of Upstate New York” for her collection of A-Z Challenge posts that are totally worth the read. Also, thanks to her for including two of my posts amongst that collection of great bloggers.

Now lets get down to business. The meat of the matter. The juice in the box. How did the number for the month of the challenge turn out?

2,031 views. Three months in a row I’ve topped 2,000 views! Thank you to everyone who comes around to read this space I call my blog.

650 visitors. That’s a gain of 61 from last month. To those of you who read more than one post, I thank you.

35 posts. Thanks to the A-Z Challenge I was guaranteed to write 26. I threw a few more in as a bonus. I kept up my Sunday Shares (mostly) and my Saturday fiction (except last Saturday… I’ll continue it next weekend. We need to know how she’s going to stop Dempsey!).

645 likes. This is down about 35 likes from last month. The likes are nice but my blog doesn’t operate on likes.

616 comments. It’s a slight drop, but still commendable. This is what my blog runs on. You’re kind words and discussions keep me motivated to write more.

Besides my homepage with 337 views, Sunday Share 23 garnered the most page views with 66. It’s nice seeing a share at the top of the list. I enjoy getting the word out about what others are writing. In close second place was H is for … with 62 views. It was for hamsters, our son’s first pets. Quite sadly, however, we’ve lost one to the great wheel in the sky. It was truly a sad day. The third most popular post was M is for Go Ask Your Father: Chemo, Vaccines, Stupidity and Gambling. I happy to report that our little friend is home. She received a couple doses of Chemo to treat her leukemia. It will be a long road for her, but it’s totally conquerable.

The Value of A Teacher is still in the lead by far.

I have a total of 387 followers. So close to the 400 mark! My three most recent followers are Tammi Kale, J.A. Allen, and Plain Rachel. Thank you all!  Will you be next? (Hint: you don’t need a WordPress account AND you’re email is kept confidential. Not even I am shown your email address).

The most visitors hailed from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

Lastly, my top 6 commenters are…
Anxious Mom of That’s What Anxious Mom Said
Daley Downing of The Invisible Moth
Ann of Grubbs-n-Critters
Stacey of Stacey is Sassy
Larva225 of Dramatic Momologue

When I wrote my last Month In Review there was still snow on the ground. Our igloo remains looked like a crater on the moon. I am happy to report that the sun is shining again and we’re reaching double digit temperatures this week. We even set up the trampoline and hung clothes on the line last weekend! I have a picture of it to put here. Unfortunately, I don’t have it with me. Here’s something similar…

February was good to me. It was even better to me than January so I broke up with January. January is now my ex-month. We have shared custody of my blog posts. It was for the better.

Anyway, on to the stats. The meat of the matter. The juice in the box…

February ended with:

2,099 views. That’s the first time I topped 2k! And it was a short month. That’s 597 more views than January. Over 1/3 more, for free!
624 visitors. That’s a gain of 197.
37 posts. That’s 8 more than January saw. Maybe that’s why January broke up with me. I didn’t put out post as often.
745 likes. A gain of 172.
637 comments (two of which were from Grumpy Frog. That’s what Bang calls my dad) This is up 116. Thank you readers for the awesome discussions.

Besides my homepage with 334 views, the most popular post in February was To Crochet or Not to Crochet with 84 views. To crochet was definitely the answer. DW learned to crochet hats and loves it. She’s working on a pair of socks now. Next was 10 Questions I Asked My Kids with 75 views. This is a Thursday series I started where I do exactly as the title says. Their answers provide a little comic relief to the week. “Loaf”ing Around took the bronze. Making bread is pretty fun!

The Value of A Teacher is still in the lead by far with 503 views.

The most visitors were from the U.S., U.K., and Thailand. Canada, you were a close fourth! Canada and Thailand switched spots from January.

February saw a gain of 26 followers. My latest three followers are Niki of Niki’s Thoughts, Sue of Crazy Tuesdays, and Victoria of Time Out Or Else Will you be next? (Hint: you don’t need a WordPress account AND you’re email is kept confidential. Not even I am shown your email address).

Lastly, my top 6 commentors are:
Ann of Grubbs n Critters
Elen of Elen Grey
Daley Downing
Tiffany of kismaslife
E of That’s What Anxious Mom Said
Farady’s Candle

Most importantly is what the statistics don’t show. It doesn’t show the group of virtual friends, other bloggers like me and not like me. Without all of you coming back to read this dribble everyday the stats would paint a picture that looks more like a 5 year old’s finger painting than the Monet you see here.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read. You really do make this blogging thing a whole lotta fun!

A Month in Review

My blog has been growing steadily since August. November continued that trend. It brought in some great numbers. Those numbers are great only because you, my readers, are great. Thank you. These numbers would all be zeros if it weren’t for all of you. You do know how to make this blogging thing interesting!

October was a good month, but November was even better. October saw 29 posts. November saw 11 more than that. That’s 40 posts if you don’t feel like doing the math. Thanks all you readers, I topped 1,000 views. There were 355 more views this month than last with a total of 1,229. There was the same increase between September and October. There were 384 visitors which is 87 more than October. Again, it was the same increase as last month. There were 442 “Likes” – 167 more than October.

This time Thailand beat out Canada in countries with the most views. The US came in at 665, Thailand scored 145, and Canada brings home the bronze with 135. Come on Canada… I should have the home field advantage here!

Grubbs-n-Critters, Strong Enough to Break, and A Momma’s View were my top three commenters this. Thanks! Kismaslife and AhDad get honorable mentions.

This month brought me my 200th WordPress follower. OF Life She Writes, was the lucky 200th. October ended with 180 followers. November ends with 216 for a gain of 36. That’s my largest gain in one month since I started blogging. Rachel, The Funny Thing About Parenting, and Kelly are my three latest followers. Thanks! Will you be next? (Remember, you don’t need a wordpress account to follow me and your email address will not be shared with anyone)

I had the honor of being a guest (for a second time) at A Momma’s View. She asked me to describe the woes and joys of teaching and relate it to homeschooling. You can read that one on her blog here. Thanks for allowing me to be your guest! Now to get some guests of my own for the holidays…

Besides my home page, Life Before/After Kids was the most popular for the month. The most viewed page for the year is still The Value of A Teacher with 499. I thought Two Faced Kids would do better than it did.

We paid our respects at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day. Thank you to all who have severed and are currently serving. I know I have (and had) many, many family members on my side and DW’s side in military service – my brother included. We celebrated American Thanksgiving. I cooked the turkey and all that goes with it and we had nine around the table. Yesterday, I made Not Sink Soup with all the leftover turkey we were tired of eating. This time it was delicious! Christmas had it’s love child in our house – we’re fully decorated inside and out. Our tree is a work in progress, though. But that’s for another post. This month welcomes Woody and Elfis – our Elves on the Shelves who you will be seeing every morning in The Daily Elf.
