Sunday Share: Year 2 Week 19

blog

Welcome to May. The sixth of May to be exact. Just a reminder that next weekend is Mother’s Day. Now’s your chance to plan something. Or set a remind to call your mom (or, at least, someone’s mom).

Our gardens are happy again. I mixed some compost and peat moss into the soil. Then I planted three new rose bushes. Our veggie garden got an upgrade when I added some fruit. A strawberry plant and blueberry bush. May summer come soon and may my plants flourish like the weeds I know I’m going to have to pull.

While we’re waiting for the weeds to grow, here are some good reads…

S is for…

Two years ago when I first undertook the A to Z challenge and wrote about S, I wrote about stuffies. To date, it is one of my top three favorite posts. It’s also when I created the header you now see on this blog. In it I share how each family member in our house has a special stuffie that represents them. A panda, a rabbit, a monkey, and a penguin make up this household zoo. If our house were on fire I would not leave until I had all four. Them and the external hard drive.

Last year for S I wrote about a game called Slither. It slithered out as quickly and quietly as it slithered in. Speaking of slitherin’…

Slitherin. Griffendor. Harry Potter. The Deathly Hallows. Sirius Black is dead. Dumbledor is, too. Crash is wondering if anyone else going to die and hoping not. I didn’t spoil it for him. Little does he know, though…

I considered writing a Saturday Share and that would get me off the hook tomorrow, but that feels like cheating. I already skipped Go Ask Your Father.

S could be for sick. Both boys are coming down with something. S could also be for sneeze, snot, and sleepy. They’ll both be in bed a bit early this evening.

is for the best day of the week. Or at least it’s my favorite day of the week. It’s the day I used to devote to writing 100 word ficional stories. In fact, it’s the day this post is getting published. Saturday. For most of us it means no work. Or at least no paid work. We are free to laze in bed or rise early and carpe diem. We are free to travel or stay put. We are also free to enjoy an extra glass of wine or two.

Of course, it’s also a day when our kids are with us the entire time. If you’re lucky the weather is nice and you can kick them outside. If they’re not lucky, you’ll kick them out into the rain. However, this is East Coast Canada, it’s still cold. Like 10 C (50F) cold. And that’s at it’s warmest. I don’t think it got that warm today.

Saturdays are for recovering from whatever you did Friday night. Or perhaps Saturdays are for what you didn’t do Friday night. Then Sunday will be your recovery day. Still an S day. No school and no work on S days!

Yeah, right. No work. Saturday is also the day to get caught up on all you couldn’t do Monday through Friday. Rather than just trying to keep up with the mess, you might even get ahead. The laudry that’s still in the laundry basket from last weekend can be put away so you can refill with with fresh clothes (to be put away next Saturday, of course). A weeks worth of crumbs (enough to feed a  of mice) and dirt (enough for a ball field) can get vacuumed. If you’re like us, you might even venture to the car wash for the Deluxe Wash.

I was ambitious today. After the car wash I cleaned out the inside, too. I’m not sure where the pebbles and rocks came from, but there was half the Sahara back there. Then I armor-alled it. Except for the scratches, she looks fit for a king… or at least four stuffies and two sick kids.

What do you like to do on Saturdays? I’ve got something you can do. Find me on Twitter! Stomperdad

Sharing Sunday: Week 13

I was in the shower with the 5 year old yesterday. I needed to shave and he was dirty so we joined forces. At the end of it we were standing in ankle deep water from Bang having put the plug in the drain. I started stomping and splashing. He laughed and splashed with me. The curtain was closed so I thought it was safe. But then DW comes busting through the door like she was a one woman SWAT team. Then I heard the smoke detectors blaring. I thought for sure I was going to have to flee a burning house wrapped in a towel. Turns out the bathroom floor somehow got flooded and water was pouring from the smoke detector on the ceiling directly below the new pool room formerly known as the bathroom. The water shorted the detector and set it off. Since all three detectors are wired together they were all blaring. Because they were blaring, the bird was squawking. DW’s blood pressure soared. We have a guy coming to find out why our pool bathroom decided to empty into the floor below.

For now… happy reading!

Sunday Share: One More Week!!!

So Friday was a snow day here. We got about 8 inches of snow Thursday night. Then the winds picked up to about 80 kph (50 mph). All that snow and all that wind made a combo as messy as the number 2 from Taco Bell. Then Saturday the temperature dropped to -14 C with a -28 C windchill (8 F with a windchill of -18F). Then today it’s 10 C (50F). Go home Mother Nature. You’re drunk!

Wherever this last weekend before Christmas finds you, I hope it finds you happy and healthy.

Monday Morning Round Table

Gather round, my friends. Let me get you something to drink.

Coffee?
Tea?
Milk?
Orange Juice?
Reisling? (It’s 5:00 somewhere)

I’d offer a Coke, but we don’t have any in the house. You’ll have to bring your own. Sorry.

This is our last full week of summer. The following week Crash starts 4th grade and Bang starts primary (aka kindergarten). The don’t start until Wednesday of next week though. I’ve explained my giddiness for the first day of school as both a teacher and a parent. I thrive on the routine as much as the kids do. DW has already started back to school. This is her third week back! Next week I’ll will be packing up to four lunches (on the days I get subbing days) , making sure everyone has what they need, and getting us all out the door on time. That last one is tricky. Last year I drove Crash to school. He enjoyed getting to school 15 minutes early (they have a “morning recess” before school starts). When he rode the bus he didn’t get there until recess was almost over. This year he will have his little brother with him for the first time. Bang is wickedly excited to ride the bus. Because if one rides the bus then Another Rides the Bus.

Crash’s baseball season is over, but it ended on a high note. He finally got to pitch. He struck out a batter to end the inning. We still pitch and catch and bat in the backyard though. Baseball’s not over until the World Series is played in October. My Orioles are currently in the 3rd place. The American League East is a tough decision and I’m confident they can overcome the Jays and Sox.

I’ve now posted 9 videos to my YouTube channel, SuperDad’s GoPro. I have a grand total of 3 subscribers! I have one in the editing process and I have some more ideas for more videos. I have to thank Jay Dee of I Read Encyclopedia for Fun for giving my YouTube page a shout out on both his blog and his own YouTube page.

That was our weekend. Thanks for joining me! Hope you enjoy the drink and chat. I hate to rush you out the door but a certain 5 year old wants me to play Big Brain Academy on the Wii with him.

Toodaloo!

Feel free to let me know how your weekend went down in the comments.
