I gave you fair warning yesterday…
Yesterday was our last day of summer. It passed much like the rest of the summer in it’s slow yet too fast kind of way.
Today was not a sleep in, lazy day. On the contrary, it was quite the opposite of a sleepy, lazy day.
5:50 am – Crash woke to use the bathroom then went back to bed to read for a bit. Too excited to sleep, I was later told.
6:00 am – Fitbit buzzed me awake. F***ing Fitbit.
6:10 am- Crash, DW and myself head downstairs to start the day.
6:15 am- Crash eats. DW makes her smoothie and eats. I start making lunches.
6:45 am – I wake up Bang. Bang says his “jitter glitter”* didn’t work. It must have because it’s all over his face. DW makes signs for the boys to hold for “First Day Pictures”
7:00- Feed Bang and pray Bang eats the first thing prepared for him.
7:10- Thank you God for answering my prayer!
7:15- Make sure boys dress as nice as one can knowing the day’s temps will climb to 30 (86F) and a heat index of 38 (100) but not so comfortable they resemble a hobo or Pigpen.
7:30- Brush teeth to prevent fur coats and dragon breath.
7:45- Load backpacks with lunches, indoor shoes and water bottles.
7:46- Wait 14 minutes until it’s time to go to the bus stop
14 minutes later….
8:00- get “First Day Photos” taken by momarazzi.
8:05- Go to the bus stop and see friends you’ve been playing with all summer, except now you’re all getting ready to ride the cheesebox
8:15- Get on the Big Yellow Taxi
*race Yellow Dragon Wagon to school*
8:30- See Crash and Bang off to class. Basically get told to leave by the 5 year old.
8:40- Drop DW off at work and go home.
8:40-1:30- Enjoy the peace and quiet of being home alone. Get more cleaning done in one morning than normally gets done in a week while playing music unusually loud.
2:45- Watch boys get off the Boneshaker and get videoed and photoed by dadarazzi.
2:46- Ask a gazillion and two questions about their day.
2:47- Get answered with “I don’t remember”
Repeat 194 more times (minus the First Day Photo shoot)
*Jitter glitter is glitter Bang received from his teacher yesterday. It was to help calm nerves for a restful sleep the night before the first day of “big kid school”

Yeah, I heard a rumor that summer is over after Labor Day. I sure wish someone would tell the weatherman. I’m sick of this heat.

No kidding. Our 100 degree heat index today was certainly not fall weather. Just watching TV is making me sweat!

Ha ha! Fun. The pictures, captions and your narration. Btw – 38 is too hot. Which part of the world are you in?

Interesting enough, we’re in Canada (I’m from Maryland though so I’m used to the heat). It was so warm and humid that typing my post caused me to sweat.

We often have a late summer. August and September seem to be the warmer months here. By the end of September we’re wearing jackets and pants, though.

Laughed out loud when I read this entire post!!! Perfectly described morning. Very sorry I have not emailed DW the template yet. I think I missed a very important deadline.

Thanks Dori. Glad you found it funny. It was fun to write, for sure. No worries about the template. I don’t even know what you’re talking about 😀

Hahahaha! Yessss. BG had her first day today and we asked her what she did and she said “I cried.”

Awww, she cried! Weird what they remember from their day. Crash would never be able to tell us about his day until bedtime. At bedtime it would all come spilling out. Not sure if bedtime would trigger the memories or if it was his way of staying awake just a bit longer. Either way, that’s when he would start talking.

Probably a little bit of both 😀
Yeah, pretty sure it was because a teacher took a toy and told her to line up. She later told us that she had cookies and made buddies. 🙂

Yesterday was the first day of school in our neck of the woods – at least I think it was. I’ll confess, I didn’t pay attention. I stayed up till after 4am, and slept till nearly noon. Miah (just 15) and Lise (12) slept longer, because they were up later. The Boyo put the garbage an recycling out before he went to bed; I’m glad he remembered, since I forgot.
They’ve lived their lives innocent of school. Today rolled out as another hot, sticky summer day. Intersecting orbits. Girl and I were extra tired; we were at a day-long unschooling conference yesterday. Boyo watched some election stuff and showed more rationality by far than a candidate I probably don’t need to name.
I like happy back-to-school pictures, and vicariously enjoying others’ clean houses. My house is too full to get clean that way….
May the year be happy for you all. I’m off to get started on some homeschool paperwork….

Ohh.. you guys are night hawks! We be the early birds. As long as the garbage made it to the curb 😉 Thanks for stopping by and commenting… May your year be fully of happiness, too. And good luck with all the paperwork 🙂

We are definitely more nocturnal than not, which probably makes it an even better thing that I don’t have to drag anyone out of bed. When the boy and I saw the bus go by a while back, we were in the middle of a conversation that covered ground from Latin to Siberian Forest Cats….

Wonderful dudes!! And I so hate the “I don’t remember.” But it makes me happy to know I’m not the only one.

“I don’t remember” and “I don’t know” are the most common answers around here. So frustrating. I try to ask “What was your favorite part of school today?” That often elicits a satisfactory response 🙂

I refer to myself a a mamarazzi! Love it.

My wife growled at me when she first read that I called her momarazzi. Then she kept reading and saw that I called myself the dadarazzi so it was all good. And here I thought I just made it up 🙂 We do love taking pictures of our wee ones!

This really made me laugh. Sounds just like our first day! Evas favourite response to what did you do at school is “cant remember!” too, that or “don’t know”. I actually set my alarm ten minutes earlier for the first day back photos, must have taken a hundred and only two had her smiling! #fabfridaypost

Thanks for stopping by! Glad you got a laugh out of it. It was fun to write 🙂 I’ve learned that “What did you do in school today?” is to broad of a question. I’ve started asking questions similar to what Thursday’s Questions I asked my kids about school” contained. I ask about their favorite part or did something make them laugh or who he played with at recess or if they read any books or did any math. The more specific the better. That “I don’t remember” drives me crazy! Our kids lives are well documented 😀

Our girls’ first day back went pretty well, but I failed epicly to even take a photo! I must be slacking. My son starts his first day next week, my plan is to get a nice one of him and his sisters. Watch this space….. Sarah #fabFridayPost

I wouldn’t worry about not getting a photo. It just means that you were enjoying the moment too much to watch it through the lens of a camera 🙂 I’ll watch for your son’s first day photos 😀 Thanks for stopping by!

Aww… this is so nice and cleverly written. I really love your style of writing. They are so cute in the photo together and taking care of each other on their first day. I know that feeling when you asked a gazillion and two questions about their day, and you get “I don’t remember”. I mean… really?! lol!
Thank you so much for linking up with us again on #FabFridayPost

Thank you for your kind words, Su! Big brother has fortunately been doing very well making sure little brother gets to the right classroom taking all the stuff he needs then getting himself to his own class. They even sit together on the bus 🙂 I’m not too worried about the “I don’t remember” I’ve learned to rephrase my questions to help them remember. Thanks for stopping by. Love the #FabFridayPosts!
