Chapter 7

Dempsey had given me a $1,000 a week”allowance”. He worked 18 hours a day so I came to be in charge of the bills and groceries. Fine by me. What he didn’t realize though was my thriftiness. We were getting by on half of that. The rest went into an account he knew nothing about.

Until today when I tried to withdraw money for groceries and there was insufficient funds.

Playing with Brogan in the backyard, I fumed about what he had done. The ball we were playing with smashed the hourglass. I tried to catch all the sand.

That’s when I realized I had a plan because I’ve got all this time on my hands now.

This is a continuation of an experiment. It’s hard to believe this has continued for 2 months! Each week there is a 100 word short story photo prompt challenge posed by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. My challenge to myself is to connect these photos into one seamless story. Click the blue frog to read other stories inspired by this photo.
