2 Birthdays and Back to Work

The holiday are over. Time to face the facts. Time to get out of our pajamas and get back to reality, back to adulting. The parenting never stopped. That’s something you can do in pajamas, a bathrobe, or while on a treadmill running at 7 mph.

Christmas was good us. The New Year’s party was fun. Both boys managed to stay up until midnight. One slept until 8 and the other made it to 10. We’re back on track now. Hope everyone’s hangover has been cured by now, too. I was the driver so I had no headache.

We’ve all made our resolutions. I bet at least one of you had quit your resolution already. I’m 8 miles into mine. 992 more to go before December 31st. Good luck with yours.

spider-man-happy-birthday-18-foil-balloon-bx-66376We have two birthdays in our family today. Happy Birthday to nephew/cousin O turning a big 6 today. Though, technically, he’s 13 hours ahead of us so he’s just ended his big day. A second happy birthday shout out to Pop. He and Nanny will be coming over for supper this evening. Puh-sketti and cake and ice cream! And now that Christmas is over, Bang has been asking how many more sleeps until his birthday! He’s confused by the number 165.

And to the little one who was SO not ready to back to kindergarten today, you are SO not alone. It’s tough going to back after not having to for two weeks. I’m willing to bet your teachers cried a little bit too because they would rather be at home in pajamas, too. All though, on the other hand they’re happy to be at work, because sometimes work is easier than parenting. To the mom dropping him off, we understand the struggle.

To those of you reading this at work, I’ve tried to drag this out to help you procrastinate. To those of you reading this at home, I’ve kept it short because I haven’t fully completed my thoughts yet, but still wanted to give you something to read. To those of you reading this on the way to work, WATCH THE ROAD! Geez, man.

On a side note, anyone fighting with Windows 10 because your start menu quit working, I solved my issue. Somewhere in the settings was an option to remove/reinstall all the apps. While this did delete every program I had installed, it did fix the start menu issue. I didn’t install Windows 10. I can thank Crash for that. A window popped up while he was watching YouTube to install Windows 10 for free. So he did. ThanksΒ chach bud. He also downloaded some adware for me. Every 10 minutes or so a commerical would randomly play. I solved that problem, too.

It’s good to be a geek. But That’s what tomorrow is about. Don’t want to give it all away!

Catch ya later. I’m waiting for the phone man to come fix our phone.

There, I made it to 485 words.

    • Bang wasn’t too happy about going back, but he was ok. Another little guy was in tears. I wasn’t too mad about Windows 10. It actually fixed some problems I was having with Windows 7. Of course, 10 came with its own problems (the start menu stopped working and would restart the computer if I clicked on it). The adware I was pissed about. It was anoying and it opens up the possibilites of viruses. Then he’d be a dead man! πŸ™‚

      • I saw him this morning. He was doing better. Mostly. No tears this morning, but he still wasn’t ready πŸ™‚ Bang didn’t want to go either. Started crying when we got out of the truck. The only lasted a few seconds though. Wanted to come home and snuggle, he said. Mean dad said AFTER school we’ll snuggle.

  1. i love the quote. hubby and i were laughing last night after we tucked the boys in. he said, “just another normal night bent over a mysterious brown spot trying to figure out if it’s poo or not.” sigh…it was poo.

    • I found that quote while hunting for a different one. I like this one better. Itsn’t it funny how normal suddenly becomes drastically different when we’re parents? What’s that smell? What’s this wet stuff? What’s that brown spot? Just another normal day in the life of a parent! Hmmm, I think you just inspired a post!

  2. I would rather deal with parenting woes than with computer issues. πŸ™‚
The first day after vacation is just lame! When I was a substitute, generally I had a longer break than other teachers because everyone had just used up all their vacation time prior to the holidays!
But as someone who was so into the flow of the days off that I forgot to set the alarm for the first day back…and then made my kid very ticked…I can sympathize with all of you adults and children who are having trouble getting back into the swing of ‘the routine.’

    • I, too, substitute. So I didn’t have to work today. My holiday is bit longer, but I try not to rub it in. Plus we had the phone repair coming this morning to fix our phone line. I like dealing with computers because they don’t talk back πŸ™‚

    • Ugh. You can have the paperwork. I completely understand the lack of motivation. Though today I was very productive – packed two lunches, dropped two kids and a DW off at school, washed and folded 6 loads of laundry (plus a 7th load of sheets that’s going right back on the bed), kept the house tidy, baked a cake and made supper!

Macs have their own issue all together, but windows 10 ain’t one.

  3. Happy new year! And happy birthday to family celebrating today! It helps to have at least one tech person in the family. I might have phoned my daughter at 10:30 last night to solve a problem. She knows she’s my IT department.

  4. I asked Little Man if his teacher seemed happy to see them today. He said “Nope, not a bit.” πŸ˜€

Man, I upgraded our desktop to Windows 10 a couple weeks ago and few days later the thing crashed. I can get to the BIOS screen but can’t get it to do anything else. 😦

    • HAHAHA! “Not a bit” That pretty much sums up every teacher.

Good luck figuring out Windows 10. Because it was downloaded online you don’t have a boot disk. Without a boot disk, can’t tell it to boot from the CD rom. Thank you Microsoft. You would think a bilion dollar company would produce competent programs before unleashing it to the world. Knock on wood, mine has been working for 3 days now. So I guess it’s due to quit anytime now.
